Book Review

I haven't done a book review for awhile...so I thought it was time.  One of the books that I have read lately is "The emancipation of Robert Sadler".
This is a must read!  Within the first few pages of this book, I know it would be a fast read and that I would not be able to put it down!
Robert Sadler and his two sisters, were sold into slavery by their own father in the early 1900's.  It's unbelievable, the barbaric life that he lived.  The book is about his life before, during, and after his escape from slavery.  It is also about his personal relationship with God and his ministry.  I highly recommend this book.

Circa' 21

Every year, sometime in the month of April, a few of us take a trip to Circa' 21 for dinner and a play.  It started about 4 years ago when I seen an ad for a play called "Smoke on the Mountain".  I talked to Mom and she called her friend, Marilynn.  I have to tell you, that was the best play I've ever seen. It was so heart warming and comical!  Marilynn's Birthday is also in April so we celebrated that as well.
The next year, we decided to see "Church Basement Ladies".  It too, was a good play.  My sister, Sheri, joined our trio that year.  So, the four of us have just
made a tradition and we go every year in April, and celebrate Marilynn's Birthday too!
Last year, we seen "Happy Days" and this year we watched "Southern Crossroads".  I really look forward to this every year and hope we can continue this tradition.
Here are a few pics from this year.

Science Fair

Last week was the science fair for the 5th graders.  So Derek and Emily were both working on their projects.  Emily's was about what color light did plants grow best under.

Derek's was about which detergent was better at cutting grease and oil.

They  both worked really hard!  They each got
a certificate for participating and a science ribbon.

Congratulations Derek and Emily on a job well done!

About Sharayah

Happy Birthday to my daughter, Sharayah!!   Twenty-three wonderful have passed since you were born and I have loved every one of them.
I made Sharayah her favorite cake, yellow cake with chocolate frosting.  When I told her, she said oooohhh..with sprinkles?  haha  So Yes....it had sprinkles!
We all sang Happy Birthday and she blew out her candles  (she wanted three)  and we had cake!  Friday will be our day to go out together and celebrate.  Shopping, lunch and who knows what else!
Here are a few more pics on her birthday...

                            Have a great day!

Muffin, Muffin, who makes the muffins??

Easter is over and spring is in full force at our house!  I have a few Easter leftovers to share...who doesn't love leftovers?
Here is a picture of my very sweet granddaughter, Lyndie.

And here is another one of Lyndie, and her big brother Blaize.....who obviously does not really care for the Easter bunny!
His Mommy reported that he smiled and waved when they left.  haha   My daughter Emily, she's 11,  wanted curly hair for Easter Sunday this year.  So, we got out the little soft pink curlers...(Everyone who ever went to Sunday School with curly hair has slept in these) and we proceded to roll up her hair.

Her hair is generally very hard to curl.   And all of our hard work paid off.....
Not as curly as you would think, but she was happy with it.
We had breakfast at our church on Easter Sunday, I volunteered to make cinnamon rolls, fruit plate and muffins.   Here are a few pictures...

Apple Cinnamon

Banana Pecan

Blueberry
Everything turned out great!  I thought I'd share my easy muffin recipe with you.  This recipe makes 2 dozen regular size muffins, or one dozen jumbo muffins, or 4 dozen mini muffins.

             Muffin Recipe

1 1/4 c. of sugar
1/2 c. of butter
2 eggs
1/2 c. of milk
1 t. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 t. baking soda
1 t. salt

Preheat oven to 350*.   Mix all wet ingredients together (if you are making banana muffins, add 1 1/2 cups (3 to 4) smashed bananas to the mixture now.) and mix dry ingredients together.  Add the dry ingredients a little at a time while mixer is on low setting.  If you are making banana muffins mix bananas with the wet ingredients, otherwise all other fruit should be folded into the muffin mix at this time.  1 1/2 c. of fruit is all you need.  You can use blueberries, raspberries, apples, or peaches. Blueberries should be rinsed and drained.  Pretty much anything would work.  I also fold 1 c. of nuts if I'm going to use those.  With my Banana I added chopped pecans.  With my Apple Cinnamon I added 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.

Baking time really just depends on your oven...regular muffins bake around 20 min.  Just keep an eye on them and remove when the tops start turning golden brown.

I hope you try this recipe.  It really is easy and these muffins freeze very well.

Ok, Now back to spring.....One of my clematis vines that I have had for 2 years has never bloomed. This year it is full of gorgeous flowers!  Emily went out and took pictures of it yesterday...

                         Have a great day!

Family Day

It's nice when we can take time out of our busy schedules to spend some time with each other.  It seems like everyone gets so busy that it's hard to have family time. Oh, how nice it is to spend time with my kids and grand kids.  Yesterday, we met at Pizza Hut for lunch and then went shopping together.

What beautiful smile they all have!  We had fun spending the day together.  Later on......I took Emily to softball practice and she practiced batting....

The rest of us were sitting and eating ice cream!  yummy!   Later on in the evening, we went and watched my other daughter, Ieshia, play in her softball game.
Above is Emily, Kirk, (a family friend) and Derek watching the game!  Final score was 15-13  We Won!

A few days ago, Emily and I were out checking my flowers and she took a few pics.  She caught a butterfly on the lilac bush!  Here are a few of her pictures she took!

Earlier that day, Derek and Emily helped me plant some of my canna bulbs.....

I have a lot of them to plant!
Our wonderful pets were hanging around......
